Jack eyes showdown with Stevenson
Badou Jack has a tall task ahead of him, quite literally, when he takes on powerhouse light heavyweight Nate Cleverly this weekend on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor.
That hasn’t stopped Jack from looking ahead.
On Thursday, August 24, Jack called out WBC Light Heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson during a press conference, saying that he was originally hoping to fight the Haitian-born Canadian in May or June, before Stevenson ended up fighting and defeating Andrzej Fonfara.
“I wanted the Stevenson fight, but I guess he wasn’t interested,” Jack said at a press conference. “I don’t know. That’s the first fight we wanted, even right after the (Lucian]) Bute fight.”
Jack fought iconic Canadian fighter Lucian Bute in April of 2016, defeating him in a one-sided decision.
Whether or not Jack ends up in a fight with Stevenson next remains to be seen, but is unlikely. Stevenson is currently expected to take on a Columbian born top contender Eleider Alvarez sometime in the fall. While nothing is official, it is expected the bout will take place in Quebec.
